Recommendation

One of the nice things about being in different churches all the time is the music. I get to hear all types and I appreciate both the old favorites I haven't heard in a while, as well as new songs that I've never heard before. Sometimes a new song will strike me so much that I ask the music leader afterward what CD I can find it on.

Two weeks ago, I heard Jon Egan/Glenn Packiam's song, "My Savior Lives" at a church that totally rocked it, and I couldn't wait to hear it again. I did a simple search and ordered the CD titled New Life Worship: My Savior Lives from Amazon. From the day that it arrived, I've been carrying it around: from the car to my bedroom to the car again, because I love this CD! Not only do the fast songs have a great beat, but the slow songs are very powerful.

If you're looking for a new worship CD or even doing your Christmas shopping, this is the CD that's currently spinning its way through my disc players.

Indianapolis General Council

I arrived in Indianapolis for the Assemblies of God General Council this afternoon after two flights (including one where the woman next to me wore a surgical mask, as if I had the Plague--or even scarier, she did). Tired and hot, I caught a taxi, and the taxi driver was from Africa; once I mentioned that I had been to Senegal, he wanted to be my new best friend. We spoke in French the rest of the ride. I had a chance to hang out with my good friends Christy and Brandy, who are other single missionaries, and my roommates in the hotel this week. Tomorrow I'll attend the pre-Council seminar sessions on leadership, before the first official evening service tomorrow night. Don't worry, I'll keep you informed on the exciting events of our fellowship here.

A lot of work for cheap bookshelves!

Continuing the “catch-up” on old posts . . . Feb. 25, 2006 I thought you would enjoy the (mis)adventures of my day today. I had the day off of work, so I decided to go to Ikea to get some bookshelves. Ah, the beauty of a plan! Are you also one of those people with a “to-do list,” evenly checked or crossed off, that keeps you on track? My whole life seems in order when I have that piece of scrap paper in hand, telling me what to do next! So this morning, I was up, ready and out the door by 9:00AM. Ikea is six or seven exits up the beltway, so it’s about 20 minutes. I was actually early. They opened at 10:00 AM, so I sat in the car and made a grocery list, because I have no food in the house (having been gone all last week). The Shadow Proves the Sunshine

I have a commute to work every day. Until our office moves in a few weeks, I continue to drive thirty minutes to work and thirty minutes back. I spend that time either deep in thought—once I even missed my exit—or singing at the top of my lungs. I suppose it depends on my mood. I try to redeem the time by listening to French music, learning through musical osmosis, if you will. But sometimes I take a break and this week I am listening to Switchfoot ’s second album, Nothing is Sound . My brother and I are both fans of Switchfoot, and we spent some time over my vacation discussing the merits of our various favorite songs. Until this week, I wouldn’t have said much about the song, “The Shadow Proves the Sunshine.” It’s got a fairly singable melody, but it wasn’t one that jumped out at me.
